Amazing Honeymoon at Maafushivaru Maldives

Exploring the house reef of Maafushivaru

Our holiday began when we arrived at the International airport. We were greeted and taken to the Maafushivaru private lounge at the seaplane terminal. Our check-in was done using an iPad which speeded up our arrival at the resort. The staffs at the lounge even offered us free drinks and snacks while we waited for our seaplane.

Upon arrival to Maafushivaru Maldives, we were greeted by the staffs and the resort manager. We were given a cold towel and a cold cocktail drink and then given a quick introduction to the facilities and how life on the island runs. Our bags were taken to our room beforehand.

We stayed at a beautiful beach villa and it was spacious with lots of space for clothes, bags and other things. We had an open bathroom and was well stocked with towels and quality toiletries. There are two showers, one inside and one outside. Our beach villa was comfortable as we can adjust the temperature of our room.  Outside the rear glass, there is a private deck which had uninterrupted views of the ocean and the beach and also the rich gardens around the island. As we were staying at the resort, my wife and I decided that we would be staying our first week at the beach villa and the other week at a water villa. The water villa we stayed was also spacious and beautiful. We had amazing views of the ocean and we were very lucky to catch the beautiful sunset hues of Maafushivaru.

All the three meals a day we had are buffet style, and there was always something I wanted to eat and they seemed to have most nationalities covered for. The food was always good quality and tasty, from the fresh salads, soup of the day, fresh grilled fish and the tons of deserts. All the waiting staff are friendly and were always polite with us and the restaurant never seemed crowded.

The bar area is very laid back with white powdery sands covering the floor. There is entertainment each night including a cinema evening and a daily happy hour. It was nice to attend the complementary cocktail making sessions where you get to drink what you have made.

We even got to use the spotless spa facilities (gym, sauna, steam room) for free. There is a beautiful lounging area out the back with a Jacuzzi and uninterrupted views of the ocean and you can watch small sharks and turtles pass by. I had a couple of massages whilst there and the tiny Indonesian lady was brilliant, could easily have had a massage every day.

We stayed one night at lonubo, which was a secluded small island not too far away from the resort. We stayed and enjoyed the sun and the ocean. We were diving most of the days and we even got to explore the beautiful house reefs of Maafushivaru.

I must say we loved and every bit of our holiday in this beautiful island.
