Immaculate Paradise – Velassaru Maldives
Velassaru Maldives was intended to be one our Honeymoon destinations in 2009 but due to a delay in opening their resort, we changed to Baros where we also have a very wonderful honeymoon. So we finally managed to try our original honeymoon.
What can I say, I can’t get enough of this beautiful island. Velassaru Maldives is located on a small atoll which takes only 30 minutes from the Maldives International airport. From the pickup at the airport all the way to the resort, the resort staff were hospitable and professional. When we arrived at the Velassaru jetty, it reminded me of Baros, and rightly so since Velassaru and Baros are managed under the same group. You will also immediately feel like kicking off your shoes to feel the soft powdery sand on your feet!
After the welcoming drink at Velassaru Maldives and the check in procedures, we were directed to our very beautifully designed contemporary beach villa with a sunset side of the island and direct access and relatively private access to the beach. This was the best side of the island where the best snorkeling spots are. For the days that followed, we spent most of our time snorkeling and exploring the house reef just off the beach area. There were corals scattered along the sunset stretch of the island so we were able to spot various marine lives easily.
The beach villa of Velassaru where we stayed was spacious and had coffee and tea making facilities. They even had bath amenities and a free standing bathtub and other various facilities. Velassaru Maldives sure did go a long way to make our stay memorable and wonderful.
The dining at Velassaru Maldives was good although it was a bit costly. It was worth the money we spent. We had the option of staying inside the villa as well. We really liked the food at Etesian and Vela and other various restaurants. But we loved each and every bit of the food here. Most of all we like the change in menus every bit so that the guest of Velassaru are not forced to eat the same food every day.
Like all other luxury resorts, optional excursions are not cheap but they do offer some very complimentary activities like yoga classes, morning cruises and snorkeling tour and we even got to enjoy table tennis which was also complimentary as well. The water sports comes with a charge. That even includes non-motorized ones too.
I have to give praise to the management of Velassaru Maldives for maintaining the island so well and making it look so beautiful. The service staff are also friendly and always asking if everything is satisfactory. It definitely made us feel valued as guests and that our opinion and comfort matter.
Overall, I would recommend Velassaru for couples and especially for those celebrating a special occasion. Go on, you won’t regret it!
